Grant Funding for Wildfire Mitigation

Building a Fire-Resilient Valley County

The Valley County Wildfire Mitigation Department offers grant funding to help reduce wildfire risk and strengthen community resilience throughout Valley County. Funding is available to assist individual landowners, neighborhoods, and community groups with hazardous fuels reduction and defensible space projects.

Grant funding is prioritized based on:

  • Community Involvement – Neighborhoods, HOAs, and areas with active landowner participation and interest in wildfire mitigation.
  • Wildfire Risk – Areas identified as higher risk due to fuels, topography, access, and proximity to structures.

This approach ensures resources are directed where they can have the greatest impact in protecting lives, property, and infrastructure.

Programs Available in Valley County

Valley County strengthens wildfire resilience through a combination of programs designed to support both individual properties and entire communities:

Valley County Firewise Grants

Cost-share assistance to help landowners create defensible space around homes and structures through thinning, pruning, and removal of hazardous vegetation.

Grant is open annually February 1-April 15th

Community Hazard Fuel Reduction Projects

Larger-scale treatment projects that reduce hazardous fuels across neighborhoods and shared landscapes, often coordinated through HOAs or organized community groups.

The Valley County Wildfire Mitigation Department applies annually for additional hazardous fuels grants to expand treatment areas across the county. Because these grants are competitive, it typically takes one to two years to determine whether funding is awarded.

Why Participate?

By combining individual-level mitigation, community-scale fuel reduction, and long-term forest stewardship, Valley County is building wildfire resilience from the ground up. These efforts:

  • Reduce wildfire intensity near homes and infrastructure
  • Improve firefighter access and safety
  • Protect property values
  • Strengthen forest health
  • Increase overall community preparedness

Get Involved

Residents, HOAs, and landowners interested in participating are encouraged to contact the Valley County Wildfire Mitigation Department to:
