To become an official candidate on the ballot, you must be a registered voter in your district, meet the qualifications of the office, and formally declare your candidacy with our office. For more information, visit the Secretary of State's how to run for office page.
Our office has notary services available for filings.

The required Declaration of Candidacy and Petition of Candidacy forms must be filed with the County Clerk's office beginning on August 17, 2026 until August 28, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Petition signatures must be verified by the Valley County Clerk.
Individuals who run as write-in candidates must file a Declaration of Intent no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 4, 2026 (write-in candidacy for the November General applies to non-partisan races only).
